On Friday, the stock price of Newmont Mining (NEM.US) rose, closing at $65.63, up more than 6.7%. The company's performance showed that the ongoing earnings per share for the second quarter were $1.85, compared to 73 cents in the same period last year. Excluding one-time items, the adjusted earnings per share for the second quarter were $1.43, higher than the 72 cents in the same period last year. This earnings exceeded analyst expectations of $1.04 per share. Revenue for the second quarter was $5.317 billion, an increase of 20.8% compared to $4.402 billion in the same period last year, exceeding expectations of $4.583 billion. The revenue growth was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the actual price of gold.
