On Friday, AMD (AMD.US) rose more than 2%, reaching $165.57. According to data from market research firm PassMark's survey on the market share of server CPUs, AMD has made significant progress in the server CPU market, with its market share reaching 50% for the first time, on par with competitor Intel Corporation, ending Intel Corporation's decades-long dominance in the server CPU market.
From the chart published by PassMark, in 2007, AMD's market share in the server CPU market once exceeded 30% (Intel Corporation was around 70%), but then AMD's market share continued to decline. From 2014 to 2019, AMD's market share was only in low single-digit percentages, while Intel Corporation's share almost approached 100%. However, starting from 2020, AMD's market share began to grow rapidly, reaching around 15% at one point, and then hovering around this level for the following years. By the second half of 2024, AMD's market share started to soar, reaching 50% in the first quarter of 2025.
