In the part of the speech about monetary policy and the US economy, Bowman expressed her support for three interest rate cuts this year, citing recent weak labor market data as strengthening her viewpoint. The Federal Reserve's policy-making committee has kept rates unchanged throughout the year, with Bowman supporting this stance until June. However, in July, both she and Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller supported a 25 basis point rate cut. On Saturday, she urged other central bank decision-makers to start cutting rates at the Fed's next meeting in September. She stated that this move "will help avoid further unnecessary deterioration of the labor market conditions and reduce the likelihood of the committee needing to implement larger policy adjustments if the labor market deteriorates further." Bowman also reiterated her belief that tariff-driven price increases are unlikely to sustainably boost inflation. She was appointed as a Federal Reserve Governor by then-President Trump in 2018.
